THE AVIARY

An anatomical rib cage, drawn in the manner of an eighteenth-century dissection

plate — except the ribs do not end as bone. They straighten, thin, and become the

iron bars of an antique birdcage.

Inside sits a single bird. Calm. Not struggling.

At the bottom, the cage door hangs open.

The design is aligned to the collar of the shirt, so the neckline itself becomes the

roof of the cage. What the drawing implies is that the cage is not on you. It is

inside you — and it was never locked.

Rendered entirely in fine hand-engraving linework: cross-hatching, stippling, and

line-weight variation, with no digital shading. Every tone is built from lines, the

way a copperplate engraver would have built it.

No slogan. No punchline. People will ask what it means, and the answer will be

different depending on who is wearing it.
